Vineyard and vintage

Milea Noir comes from the single organic “Milea” vineyard in Argalasti, Pelion, planted in 2008 at a density of 6,000 vines per hectare. The vines are dry-farmed on clay soil at 300 metres, where the large neighbouring forest together with a stream, brings cooler evenings during the summer months and preserves the acidity of the grapes. 2023 brought heavy spring rainfall followed by a hot summer with a long heatwave which brought the grapes to phenolic ripeness, while the local microclimate preserved their acidity.

Winemaking

The grapes are picked by hand and taken straight to the winery where destemming and crushing take place the same day. After a 96-hour cold maceration in stainless steel tanks, fermentation starts with indigenous yeasts at a controlled 18°C, with a gentle daily pigeage until it ends. The wine ages for 12–14 months in used 300-litre French oak barrels and is bottled unfiltered.
