Vineyard and vintage
A single-vineyard Syrah from the “16aria” vineyard in Vounaina, planted in 1996, where the vines are farmed organically on sandy soil at 280 metres. In 2024 temperatures ran above average, with very little rain and a hot summer. Yields were lower than usual, with small berries, very high concentration and full phenolic ripeness.
Winemaking
The grapes are picked by hand and after destemming, transferred into 5-tonne Taransaud oak vats. After 7 days of cold maceration, fermentation starts spontaneously with indigenous yeasts at 18°C, with a gentle daily manual punch-down of the cap (pigeage). The wine ages for 14 months in 300-litre French and American oak barrels and is bottled unfiltered.
